I hope by the time you have picked up this book to
read, that you are settled down with a warm cup of tea (or two). I created
these ideas for all the little girls inside of us. I know most of us had
a great taster (brother or doll) some one close, so you might want to
remind him of those "Country-Memories". In victorian times,
10-year-olds might have had tea and dainty sweets in the afternoon with
the ladies. they might have snacked on jelly biscuits, tea sandwiches
and gingerbread, and they might have played tea party with dolls. "Color"
teas were popular in the early 1900s. The hostess chose a color for dishes,
linens, decorations and even food, which set the theme for the party.
Often, guest dressed in the chosen color. "Girls practiced proper
behavior, or etiquette, at tea parties. They never put their elbows on
the table, and they sat up straight instead of slouching. When food was
passed, it was proper to say 'Thank you,' not 'thanks,' which was considered
lazy and disrespectful." For a dolls tea party, each guest is asked
to bring her favorite doll in its finest clothes. The hostess is urged
to use a miniature tea set and have tiny cakes to serve the dolls-and
guests. this would be a good time to have a tea party with your favorite
person and share a good painting book. Enjoy! This book is for all of
you out there who like a little tea party now and then.
